REALITY BITES WINS AWARD  .  .   .  .  . .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

“Reality Bites” Program Acclaimed for National Excellence

"Reality Bites: The Real Corporate Experience," FAU’s own reality television show starring FAU students, recently received national recognition.  The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), an organization that distinguishes exceptional student affairs programs, selected FAU as the second place Silver Award recipient for Careers, Academic Support, Service Learning, Community Service and related programs.

“We feel honored to receive this award,” said Carolyn Stewart, associate director of the Broward Career Development Center.  “Our students, community sponsors and staff have worked hard to make this program successful.  The experience has been so valuable and in its own right, the award recognition is an added bonus.”

This year marked the second annual “Reality Bites,” a program focused on what students can expect from the job-seeking process.  Students competed for winning recognition as the candidate who gained the most from resume critiques, company tours and mock corporate interviews.  The winner was Nykaya Williams, a senior at FAU’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. “Basically, ‘Reality Bites’ made me more aware that the transition from college to working in the corporate world is a crucial step in a student's life,” said Williams, a native of Trinidad and Tobago who came to the United States to pursue higher education and a career as a physician.

She received business-related gifts, including career coaching, a business suit, professional image consulting and a laptop computer.  Company sponsors included City Furniture, Merrill Lynch, Bonefish Grill, Jobing.com, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Dillard's, the Law Offices of Becker & Poliakoff, SYMS, InterMedia Marketing, the FBI and Applied Card Systems.
